Information – Feliciano Type

The foundry
Feliciano Type was established in 2001 by Mário Feliciano. We design and distribute original typefaces, provide typographic consultancy, and work with clients all around the globe on custom typeface projects. Our clients include the BBC, Nike, El País and Vanity Fair.
The foundry’s main design studio in Lisbon, Portugal, with two additional offices, in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, and in The Hague, Netherlands.

Mário Feliciano
Mário studied graphic design at IADE, Lisbon, and began working as a graphic designer at Surf Portugal magazine in 1993, where he stayed as art director until 2000. In 1994 he founded the design studio Secretonix, working on a wide variety of design projects and specializing in editorial and publication design. In the early days of his type design career, Mário published several experimental typefaces in small independent foundries, and also designed an original typeface for Adobe, Strumpf. In 2001 the Feliciano Type Foundry was created to publish and distribute his typeface designs, as well as creating custom typefaces.
He became a member of ATypI in 1997 and organised the annual ATypI conference in 2006, held in Lisbon. Over the years, Mário Feliciano has designed several custom typefaces, such as Expresso for the Portuguese weekly newspaper Expresso, Sueca, for the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, Majrit for the Spanish newspaper El País and BesSans for Banco Espírito Santo.

Helder Luis
Helder is a designer, multimedia artist, musician and photographer. He studied graphic design and typography, and since 1996 has worked for various companies and institutions. His graphic design work has been exhibited at various events and published in numerous publications over the years. As a multimedia artist, he developed his work individually and collectively. As a musician, he was part of several projects and also performed solo as an experimental musician. In the last couple of years, he has been involved in a large documental project photographing and filming Portugal’s fisherman. In 2018 he presented at the Serralves Contemporary Art Museum his MAR installation. The same year he presented the installation Under the Above at the cinematic gallery Solar. In 2019 he published his first book, Atlântico, about his experience aboard a fishing ship along the Atlantic Ocean.
Helder is in charge of the maintenance and design of our website and it has been a collaborator of the foundry since day one.

Retail fonts
Our goal is to design unique and useful typefaces, that we would love to use ourselves. All our retail fonts support a wide range of languages and contain various OpenType features.
Our standard licenses include fonts in OpenType format for print and WOFF & WOFF2 for the web. Other formats may be supplied upon special request.

Custom work
In addition to producing original retail fonts, we may provide other services such as custom lettering, nameplate design, custom typeface design and typographic consultancy, as well as modifying any of our existing designs according to your specific requirements.
We have designed custom typefaces for clients such as El País, Expresso and Svenska Dagbladet newspapers, Nike, the BBC, and others. For inquiries, send us an email to info@felicianotype.com.
